Seamstress Recommendations

Sometimes things don’t go as perfectly planned and our Brides, Bridesmaids, and sometimes Groom’s and Groomsmen are in need of alterations. Whether they’ve lost a tremendous amount of weight due to diet, exercise (or stress), or have gained some happy weight to fill out those curves and achieve that hourglass look, or they’re just in need of hemming because there’s too much fabric at the ends, we’re here to share some local seamstress recommendations.

First off, we generally recommend that our couples take their clothing to their original place of purchase for alterations. Many boutiques or suit shops offer alterations and replacement of your items if something drastically doesn’t work out. But, sometimes, we recommend taking your items elsewhere. Whether that’s because you purchased your items online and there’s no physical brick and mortar shop to do alterations, or, we’ve received scathing feedback from past couple’s. Whatever the reason, here are some other local alteration options!

Linda Fujioka’s

Linda is someone that Steph has personally used in the past for prom dress alterations and suit alterations. Linda used to have a alterations storefront on Beretania Street but is now a home business. Our team still highly recommends Linda Fujioka for your alteration needs!

Yee Mei Seamstress

Yee Mei previously was exclusively employed by The Bridal Boutique which is sadly no longer in business. However in the time that we’ve had Bride’s who purchased dresses from The Bridal Boutique, they all loved their alterations by Yee Mei who was able to convert dresses, shorten hems, and perfectly place bustles on the wedding gowns!

Masako Formals

In addition to providing high quality wedding dress rentals, Masako Formal’s offers full service alterations in their bridal boutique. Like many other seamstresses, they are appointment only for consultations. With their detailed experience with various types of dresses, Masako Formal’s continues to be a popular wedding name on O’ahu.

Sook HI

Sook Hi Alteration’s is located in town near Walmart. Our team has received numerous feedback from past Bridesmaids and Brides who have taken their dresses in for alterations ranging from hemming, taking the sides in, and adding a simple bustle.

Linh’s Alterations

Also located in town, Linh’s is a well known alterations boutique. Although there may be a slight language barrier, they have raving reviews online. One of our past Groom’s took his suit in to be altered as he ordered it online from Macy’s who wasn’t able to guarantee the alterations in time. The suit came out looking fantastic and well fitted!

Overall, we recommend that everyone do their due diligence and research before committing to a “third party” alterations boutique. It’s important to see them, show them your items, try it on and describe what you want done. A great alternation specialist will let you know what can or cannot be done. It’s important to listen to them and heed their advice, because once the material cut, there’s often no turning back from that point.
